Top Comment: Hello, today I was bored and I got a random though about a game I could make, so I made it. It’s a simple game where you input a username and it spits out all of their games, including the ones that aren’t visible on their profile. You’re able to join the game via a button and the UI ...

Games where you can sit and enjoy the view.

Main Post:

Recently, Cyberpunk was updated with a metro system, you can just sit on a loop and watch the world go by out the window.

I love to do this while I have a coffee and chat with some friends, so I was wondering are they any other games that have a feature like that? Where I can just hit go and it will ferry me for a long while?

Top Comment: RDR2 is like this. You can spend ages just riding around on your horse, taking in the sights, checking out the wildlife, without actually doing anything. You can also go on a train ride doing the same. But there are times where the action will come to you, so it will be interrupted

Games with a second-person view

Main Post:

So, I've watched that one popular video (by Nick Robinson) about this topic years ago and was confused why the author missed some qualities of what "second person view" means, but recently I've discovered this video in my recommendations once again and decided to express my worthless opinion.

My thesis: games with second-person view are games where the player is the narrator, games where the main characters act based on the player's decisions and the player doesn't directly control them or games where player sees the character they control through the eyes of another character.

What are the properties of a first-person view game?
- camera view is set in the perspective of one character
- you control that character by giving directional inputs and action inputs

What are the properties of a third-person view game?
- camera view is following one character
- you control that character by giving directional inputs and action inputs

Second-person view is all about having "you", the player, as part of the experience. Either something should be happening to you or because of you. Something separate and controlled by the player can affect the character that the player associates with themselves, or the player might not have a character that represents them but have the power to affect other characters.

Based on that, what would be the properties of a second-person view game?
- either player sees the playable character from the perspective of another character, who cannot be controlled and is affected by actions of the pc
- or the player is their own entity that gives orders/does something to the "playable" characters

By that definition, I would say that strategy games and life-sims are also games with second-person view.

Top Comment: 1st person - "I'm controlling myself" 3rd person - "I'm controlling that person" 2nd person - "I'm controlling you" So the PC would have to be aware of you. Problem with the player inhabiting the world is that it would make the game 1st or 3rd person, since you're not literally in the world, some other character is. So the only 2nd person games I can think of are: Strategy games where the player isn't represented by a character 4th wall breaking adventure games

Do you play non RPG games? Whats your view on games like GTA?

Main Post:

I'm brand new to RPG games and Skyrim is my first. I have been totally unaware games like this existed with such depth, adventure, attention to detail, and realism. I've always loved open world games, so I played a lot of GTA. Now GTA seems too simple and boring. Do most people who like RPG's also enjoy shooting games like GTA?

Top Comment:

Sure, but GTA and Skyrim scratch two very different itches for me. Skyrim is for a quiet Sunday off work and maybe a drink or two. GTA is for when I've been sitting in traffic for an hour and a half trying to get home from work and it's only a fucking Tuesday. 👍

[PC][Mid-Late 1990's] Top view racing game

Main Post:

I am searching for the first game that got me into PC gaming.
It was a top view racing game, with exactly 90 degrees camera, so very little perspective. It was kinda 3d but looked more like a 2d game.

The game had more like a time attack style approach, most maps you were alone and to unlock more maps and better cars, you had to beat specific times.

There were multiple surfaces like road, dirt and snow.
There was a degree of car damage, what impacted car performance.
The sliding mechanic was quite good. One map that I remember vividly, was a snow drift map, where you had traffic cones, and if you hit them, your had a sort of continuous time penalty. On the same map there were some tasks, like to stop on a certain spot.

Another map I remember was a night map, with rain and it was very difficult as the headlights would break really easily.

The very first map was played with a red, very rectangular car.

I have dug trough a TON of similar games, but could not find it.

[PC] [2002 or earlier] Top down view action game about climbing a castle.

Main Post:

[PC] [2002 or earlier] Top down view action game about climbing a castle.

Game had at least 3 difficulties, screen to select a difficulty was a 3 castles next to each other, with smaller on the left, to bigest on the right. Gameplay: you had to fight different monsters on each floor/level, each monster had a specific weapon to beat them, weapons were spawning on screen thought playthrough, with no ability to get a weapon to next level, every weapon was one time use. Example of monsters and weapons to them that i remember: Carnivous tipe of plant with some spray against them; Vampires with aspen stake; i do also remember mummies but not weapon to them, and may-be warewolfs with pistol against them. Each weapon and monster behaved differently, with aspen stake being the hardest to use as it had short range.

After defeating every monster they went back to they "spawning" house, where they reappear after a short delay, and to beat a level you had to get rid of all the spawning houses.

Game had "lives" as continue mechanic, with every monster being able to kill you in one touch. There were some ways to get lives, but i don't remember what was it.

If you stay on a level long enough without beating it, title "Hurry" will appear on screen, and after a short delay, a green unkillable worm will appear, who was fast but randomly moving through the level.

I do remember game having a sound and bright colors, and graphically it was at least better than diablo1, or i just remembered it to be pretty.

What is your view on the Malaysian Videogame Industry

Main Post:

Aspiring indie dev here. The VG industry is almost a blank slate in this country, it's usually the more casual or mainstream games that are played here. Then again, there was the Malaysian subsidiary of Streamline Studios who worked on Street Fighter V and the Malaysian guy who added a mamak in Final Fantasy 15.

I think videogames could potentially be what puts Malaysia on the map, with the TV and Film industries being practically dead.

Top Comment: I did an internship at an indie studio and was sexually harassed lol, and we never even met face to face. Was completely on discord 💀 apparently it had happened to all the interns and some of them didn’t report anything. I left immediately and reported the guy and my boss didn’t do anything (even said ‘we won’t gaslight you, this happened, we’re not doing anything’). Wasn’t even paid! This guy was harassing men, women, full-time employees, everyone! It was also crappy long meetings watching FULL playthroughs of the game and I didn’t even have to be there in my internship role imo That being said I would still love to do work in video games! Unfortunately I heard that this kind of harassment is very common in the industry from people I was working with at the time. I do know No Straight Roads was by a Malaysian developer and that was pretty well received internationally! I’m more a writer and illustrator and I don’t know anything about programming etc but I would still love to have my game ideas going. Not sure how to find other aspiring indie devs
